Be Careful What You
Wish For
Clashing of thunders, whistles of the
wind. It's a cold and stormy night,
Jeremy was sitting nearby the window.
Looking at the little water droplets at the window, sliding from the top
to the bottom. Day-dreaming as something
just came into his mind. Tears started
to fall from his eyes and down his cheeks.
He remembered what had happened in the past years back. That night, it was Jeremy's 13th birthday. Both of his busy parents finally got their
free time and planned to celebrate their son, Jeremy's birthday for the first
time. Jeremy was the only son of the two
beloved couple. Jeremy couldn't wait to
celebrate with his parents. All of them
dressed in their best looking outfits and off they go. Jeremy decided and he wanted to celebrate his
birthday by having a night picnic nearby the beach. So, Jeremy's dad drove off a few kilometers
away from their home. But on their way
there, it started drizzling rain. Jeremy
had lost his hope but he gain back his spirits and said, ''Why not, let's
celebrate at home? It's so rare to see
you guys at home.'' He smiled broadly
and both of them replied back with a smile as well. On their way back home, the rain had become
bigger and bigger. They can't even have
a clear view of the road. Jeremy's dad
decided to speed up as time is ticking and it's almost reaching 12
o'clock. Suddenly, there was a loud
horning sound ahead. Jeremy's dad was
driving on the opposite line; he turned the steering wheel as hard as he could
to get out of the way. Unfortunately, it was too late; the car was crashed and it slides
under the lorry. Jeremy was knocked on
the head because of the large impact.
His head started to bleed. He
didn't care about the bleeding on his head.
Jeremy saw both of his parents lying down unconsciously. He pushed his parents and started shouting
''Mum.. Dad.. Wake Up! Wake up! Don't leave me alone!'' Tears started dropping from Jeremy's eyes. He shouted countless times but there was no
movement of his parents. He sobbed and
mourned. It was a tragic accident and
also a total nightmare for Jeremy. Both
of his parents were announced dead at the nearby hospital as they
were lacking
of blood.
Jeremy was sent to the hospital and
was given stitches on his injured head.
Jeremy doesn’t have any relatives, only his parents were the closest
with him. He was sent to the orphanage. He couldn’t sleep for the whole week. The image of what had happened during the
incident kept on bouncing in his mind.
He was terrified and shocked. He
couldn’t believe that his parents passed away during the day they wanted to
celebrate his birthday for the first time.
He felt guilty and always thought that it was his fault. The other orphans in the orphanage also tried
to cheer him up but Jeremy just ignored them.
Once, Jeremy was sitting alone in the balcony. He stared at the stars and started counting
them. His father told him before, “Count
how many stars are there, and that’s how many sweets I’m going to give you.’’ Then, Jeremy will non-stop counting the stars
in order to get those sweets. Jeremy looked
at the stars smiling and he started counting. A while later, something abnormal happened in
the sky. There was a flying star,
wait! It’s a wishing star. Jeremy folded his hands together, closed his
eyes and started to wish. “I wish I was dead
now.” After wishing, he opened his
eyes. Nothing really happened and so he
went to bed with disappointment.
After he went to bed, something
weird happened. He felt like there’s
something bugging him from sleeping. He
ignored it but then he was irritated.
So, he sat up straight and wanted to know what was actually bugging
him. When he opened his eyes, he was
shocked. He sees images of the past
which the incident happened. Jeremy was
shocked and frightened. Suddenly, there
was one small human-like “thing” with wings was standing on Jeremy’s
shoulder. It looks like a fairy. The fairy spoke, “You are half dead now. What a wish…you silly boy.” Jeremy argued back in a loud tone, “What do
you mean by that, I want to see my parents now! Where are they?!” “Your parents are in reality now and you are
in heaven.” The fairy replied him in a
well-mannered way. Jeremy trembled and
couldn’t believe what it said. He
remained silent. The fairy questioned
him, “Don’t you believe me? Come, let me show you something.” The fairy flew towards a bright light and indicating
Jeremy to follow it. After walking a
distance, the surrounding started to change.
An image started to appear in front of them. It was blur and what Jeremy saw was his mum,
his dad and also himself. But he sees himself
lying on the bed, wearing and oxygen tank and there’s no movement. It’s seems that Jeremy in the reality has
been facing a coma. Jeremy’s parents
were sitting by his side holding his hands crying and sobbing. Jeremy eyes swollen and he started to
cry. He felt bad for making that silly
wish. The fairy spoke, “You shouldn’t be
that silly to make a wish like this, It’s between life and death. These decisions are made by God and you can’t
change anything. There are lots of
stuffs that you can do in the future.
Wouldn’t your parents feel bad just the way you do now?” Jeremy nodded his head. The fairy pitied him and said, “Oh fine then,
I’ll help you undo this wish and always keep in mind. Be careful what you wish for!” The fairy used his wand and waved a several
times. Jeremy was brought back to
time. It was dawn. He was confused that whether it could be a
dream or it had really happened. By that
time, Jeremy had learned his lesson for not simply making wishes. One year later, Jeremy was adopted by a
lovely couple, Mr. Simon and Mrs. Grace.
Mr. Simon and Mrs. Grace treated Jeremy like their own son so as
Jeremy.
At the drop of a hat, someone patted on Jeremy’s shoulder,
it was Alice, Jeremy's foster parents' daughter who was only 4 years old. Jeremy was back to reality, after thinking of
those memories. He
quickly wiped off his tears on his Tee and smiled at her. ''Yes, Alice?'' Jeremy said it with curiosity. ''Happy Birthday Jeremy! It's time to cut your
birthday cake. Come on!! I'm hungry.''
Alice begged him and she pulled his sleeves insisting him to go
now. Jeremy stood up and went to the
kitchen followed by Alice pushing him at the back. Mr. Simon and Mrs. Grace, both Jeremy's
foster parents were preparing the cakes for Jeremy and its well placed on the
table with one big candle and five small candles on it. Both of them saw Jeremy arriving and started
to sing him a birthday song. Alice from
behind also cheered and sang along.
''Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you...'' The house was full with warming joys and
laughter. Jeremy was touched. It was the first time he celebrated his
birthday. Jeremy folded his hands together
and wished, “I wish mum and dad would be happy in heaven. Don’t worry mum and dad, Mr. Simon, Mrs.
Grace and Alice will take good care of me and I’ll also take a very good care
of them as well.”
